Identical Homes

Identical Homes is the experimental project of California-based musician and producer Daniel McKenzie, known for his work in bands like The Rum Diary, Built for the Sea, and Shuteye Unison. With Identical Homes, he creates a deeply atmospheric and exploratory sonic world, blending elements of ambient, post-rock, electronic, and noise-pop.
Identical Homes is now performing live with Daniel and with Jake Krohn (Shuteye Unison, The Action Design), Lia Rose (Built for the Sea), and Greg Kelly (Sunset Junior, Fight Like Fight). Together, they trade instruments often, weaving between ambient interludes, tribal rhythms, and hypnotic grooves.
Launched in the 2010s, Identical Homes showcases its multi-instrumental talents and studio craft, offering richly textured compositions that balance organic instrumentation with digital experimentation. The project’s releases—including albums like A. Hydrophelia, Language Lessons and Mt. Vision—feature layered synths, delayed guitars, rhythmic intricacies, and a sense of sonic landscapes that reward deep, immersive listening.
Rooted in the DIY ethos of his earlier bands, he writes and produces Identical Homes from his home studio in Marin California, collaborating with fellow musicians and artists like: Eric Kuhn (Silian Rail, Eric and Erica), Schuyler Feekes (The Rum Diary), Demetrius Antuna (Dropscience, Hauntu), Cory Grey (Old, Unconscious, Desert City Soundtrack, Carcrashlander), Jon Latimer (The Aimless Never Miss), and Matthew Soldberg (From Moumnet to Masses, Minot).
The result is music that feels intimate yet expansive, experimental yet accessible—perfect for fans of artists like Pinback, Blonde Redhead, Tycho, Fever Ray, Boards of Canada, or Radiohead’s more abstract moments.
