Built for the Sea

Built for the Sea is an indie rock band based in San Francisco, known for their lush soundscapes, haunting melodies, and cinematic songwriting. Fronted by singer and multi-instrumentalist Lia Rose, and members of Bay Area groups like The Rum Diary and Shuteye Unison, Daniel McKenzie and Jake Krohn. Former band members include Eric Kuhn, Jon Latimer, J. Michael Neal, Michael Fecskes and Justin Silva.

Blending elements of post-rock, dream pop, and folk, Built for the Sea crafts songs that feel both intimate and expansive. Rose’s ethereal vocals float over layered guitars, ambient textures, and subtle electronic flourishes, creating a sound that’s often compared to artists like Blonde Redhead, Mazzy Star, and Portishead. Their last three albums were released by Firebrand Records, and label started by Ryan Harvey and Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine.
